78th CONFERENCE A SUCCESS!
Past President, Kim Hall, encouraged all 93 attendees to “know your worth…you are all more than “just a secretary!” The work you do each and every day for schools is vital to the organization.
Vivian Champagne, NAEOP Administrative Council Chairman spoke on being a member of NAEOP.  Kellie Bailey, and SEL Specialist at the Department of Education, presented information on social emotional learning, and how taking care of ourselves is important if we are to help take care of students.
Pender Makin, Maine Commissioner of Education, thanked attendees for the work that they do and noted that often we are “that person” for students who need someone. She noted that the office is the heartbeat of the school! How you welcome students, parents, and other staff sets the tone and affects everyone in the building. Penelope Wheeler-Abbott, a Senior Education & Human Resources Specialist with Drummond, Woodsum & McMahon, presented a brief overview on school record retention, focusing on what a record is (content not format), and what is public and what is confidential.
After lunch we enjoyed many breakout sessions included but not limited to retirement plans, data Integrity, record retention, special education and mental health.
Our conference ended by recognizing years of service to our schools.  Each was given a beautiful bouquet of candy made by Sweet Chicks of Mars Hill, Maine.

If you work as an educational office professional and would like to be recognized on this site, please contact

NAEOP - National Association of Educational Office Professionals
The mission of the Association is to provide professional growth through leadership, education, achievement, recognition, and networking opportunities for educational office professionals.
History: Superintendents of 157 cities during 1934 were asked to recommend secretaries to represent their school systems for a proposed organizational meeting. Ninety-six secretaries responded. This effort was sparked by Louise Henderson Nelson who was active in the Philadelphia Clerical Assistants organization. Since that exciting day in the spring of 1934, the National Association of School Secretaries - later changed to National Association of Educational Secretaries, now the National Association of Educational Office Professionals - has developed outstanding programs for educational office personnel.  Join Now!
